Meet the Founder
Hello, my name is La Quay Jerkins Jr., and I am a student-athlete at Occidental College with a strong passion for recycling and contributing to the field of education. My journey has been shaped by diverse educational experiences, beginning in the public school system and transitioning to private school in high school. Growing up in a Title I school environment, I witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by students who lacked essential resources, as well as the advantages enjoyed by those who were adequately equipped to learn and express their creativity.
This contrast revealed a clear trend: students with access to updated materials, engaged teachers, and opportunities to explore their potential often achieved better outcomes than those constrained by outdated textbooks and insufficient supplies. These experiences deeply resonate with me and fuel my commitment to making education more equitable.
Additionally, my passion for recycling stems from working with my father, where I developed an appreciation for repurposing and giving new life to materials, including electronics. I believe this passion aligns with my vision of creating positive change—both by addressing educational disparities and by contributing to environmental sustainability. By combining these interests, I aim to build initiatives that give back to the community while tackling the persistent issue of pollution. I am excited to continue exploring these endeavors and making a meaningful impact.
